Konzepttext:
Based on the phrase “ein moment der traurigkeit, der nicht zu vergessen ist,” I think of my proposal as a subjective – as opposed to objective – monument. The work will consist of two concrete blocks, 120 x 120 x 180 cm. each, with the phrase etched into the concrete in both German and Turkish (“bir anlik uzuntu, unutulmasin”). Using two languages, the piece will thus key into Dinslaken’s multi-ethnic and multi-cultural demographics.
Although the work functions as a monument, it will be placed within the common space of park visitors, i.e., amid park benches and other amenities rather than set off by a pedestal or a railing. The two blocks should also be placed at some distance from each other (not close together as they appear in the model), preferably so one cannot see them both at the same time.
