In 1584, Giordano Bruno proposed an unbounded universe, he wrote: "innumerable suns exist; innumerable earths revolve around these suns in a manner similar to the way the seven planets revolve around our sun. Living beings inhabit these worlds."
In any choreography, view points and perspectives are essential. They frame and expand our experience. The two proposed Platform 8 (working title) structures would serve a number of viewing possibilities and experiences in the landscape as well as providing a comfortable and unencumbered place to look upwards into the heavens. 7 varied platform shapes may be despersed and collected to form larger definitions of the whole. Another 7 varied platforms may be gathered to provide smaller intimate and focused points. The possible combinations are infinite. ∞
The proposed platforms have slatted customized Abet laminate surface, supported by aluminum structures. The customized laminate will be designed over the next 6-12 months and will be reflective in motif of the inhabitants of Dinslaken. The Design may come directly from a group of suggestions determined by the community
It is my belief the public art projects are best considered as a collaborative process where the producers are not only the artists but rather a group of interested parties consisting of the commissioners (the community), the curator, and the artist. This proposal for Dinslaken reflects my interest in developing a structural platform that over time and in a collaborative process becomes determined and is given meaning.
